Story Overview Freedom is Only One Run Away. Follow the journey of a minor league baseball pitcher ready to play for the New York Yankees, only to be thrust into the perils of the Pacific during WWII. A dramatic tale exploring the loss of innocence, the ugly realities of war, and the amazing ability of sport to bring men, even enemies together.
Commercial Appeal
It’s not just a sports movie, a WWII movie, a war movie, a baseball movie, or a prison movie… it’s all of these. And you don’t have to be a fan of baseball to become engrossed in this dramatic tale. It’s also not just an American movie. The story explores both sides of the conflict and reveals the best and worst in both cultures, American and Japanese. There are also POW’s of Latin descent to give the film a real diversity and appeal to a vast international audience.
With interest in baseball at an all time high, it’s also become a global phenomenon as well. Japanese and other foreign players are not only superstars in their native countries, but in the U.S. as well.
Historical Accuracy
Though a work of fiction, efforts and research were conducted to ensure the characters, events, and details of the period portray an appropriate and exceptional story worthy of the brave men and women who fought for their countries. (Saving Private Ryan is a similar example of WWII fiction).
